Description:
Back in the day, instead of television, we just had campfires that people told stories over. You could still change the volume, and pause, and stuff like that...but it got really uncomfortable when you tried to change the channel.

Okay, we're about to ask you to do something and you're going to have to trust us. [Woman sat at her desk]
- 00:17
Close your eyes.
- 00:18
Go ahead.
- 00:19
If you don’t, we’ll know. [Boy opens one of his eyes]

We have spies everywhere. [Spies pop up all over the classroom]
- 00:23
Okay…good.
- 00:24
Now take one hand and use your pointer finger to push the tip of your nose up as much as
- 00:29
you can.
- 00:29
Now open your eyes…
- 00:31
You all look like pigs. [Pig at the boy's desk]
- 00:32
Gotcha!
- 00:33
All right…we’re very sorry about that.
- 00:35
Let’s do it again.
- 00:36
We’ll be good this time.
- 00:38
Once your eyes are closed, imagine you are living before smart phones, before flip phones,
- 00:43
before megaphones... before any phones at all. [Clocks ticking and the phones flying away]
- 00:46
Pretty scary stuff, huh?
- 00:47
A world without emojis…shudder.
- 00:50
Now imagine it's a thousand years ago. [Boy standing in a modern city goes back to 1016]
- 00:53
What do your clothes look like?
- 00:55
There weren't any shopping malls, so… they’re probably a little raggy. [Boy wearing tattered rags]
- 00:58
No movies.
- 00:59
No movie theaters.
- 01:00
No TVs.
- 01:01
There's not even electricity. [Boy trying to charge his phone by attaching it to a kite in a storm]
- 01:03
Keeping your eyes closed, take a look around you.
- 01:06
Where are you?
- 01:07
At home? Outdoors?
- 01:08
What do you see?
- 01:09
Remember, it's one thousand whole years ago. [Boy walking in a muddy field]
- 01:11
If you can see any roller coasters, you’re in the wrong century. [The roller coaster dissappears]
- 01:15
How do you pass the time?
- 01:17
You definitely have to work hard to take care of your family, that's for sure. [Boy and family dressed like game of thrones]
- 01:20
Maybe you get to hang out with friends from time to time.
- 01:22
But… what do you guys do?
- 01:24
Okay…now it’s night time. [Darkness covers the boys]
- 01:26
Remember, there's no such thing as a light bulb. [Monsters eyes in the background]
- 01:28
So…what do you if it's too dark to see but too early for bed?
- 01:32
What do you think people did if they had no iPhones, video games or TVs to look at before bed? [Dino and Coop thinking about the question]
- 01:37
Was counting ceiling tiles actually a thing?
- 01:40
Were there ceiling tiles? [The ceiling disappears and boy looks shocked]
- 01:42
Picture yourself sitting in front of a giant campfire.
- 01:45
This was TV thousands of years ago. [Two guys sat in a room looking at the fire]
- 01:48
But instead of watching the latest Walking Dead episode, people gathered around the fire [Walking Dead playing in the fire]
- 01:52
and told each other stories.
- 01:54
Nowadays, storytellers write books or movie scripts. [Guy writing on a computer]
- 01:56
But back in the olden days, people didn't write down the stories, they told them to each other.
- 02:01
They would gather ‘round the fire and listen to the tribe elder tell a story. [People look excited]
- 02:05
And that elder would tell stories they heard from their tribal leader when they were younger,
- 02:09
and so on.
- 02:10
These same stories were passed down generation to generation.
- 02:13
Sometimes, the story would change a little bit.
- 02:16
The person telling it would add a little flourish, or spice up the ending just a bit.
- 02:20
These stories would evolve, just like we did. [Human evolution ending with a person looking at a fire and watching TV]
- 02:23
And…that’s what entertainment was like many thousands of years ago.
- 02:27
Now open your eyes and complete the Guided Imagery workshop. [Boy is back in the classroom]
- 02:30
Write down some of the things you imagined – no matter how wacky they might have been.
- 02:34
But…maybe don’t let your parents see it.
- 02:36
We don’t want to be responsible if they start taking you to counseling. [Parents look concerned with boys painting of 'Guided Imagery Workshop']
