Common Core Standards
Grade 7
Reading RI.7.7
Compare and contrast a text to an audio, video, or multimedia version of the text, analyzing each medium's portrayal of the subject (e.g., how the delivery of a speech affects the impact of the words).
This standard is a pretty difficult one, because there aren't very many audio, video, or multimedia versions of non-fiction stuff out there (trust us—we looked). The best bet on covering this standard is to go with speeches, like what's suggested in the text of this Common Core Standard. There are also a handful of non-fiction books out there with corresponding documentaries, such as Guns, Germs, and Steel; Half the Sky; The Botany of Desire; and An Inconvenient Truth (which was actually based off a lecture given by Al Gore). If you can find something else that covers this standard, all the more power to you!
