By the end of the year, read and comprehend literary nonfiction in the grades 6-8 text complexity band proficiently, with scaffolding as needed at the high end of the range.
A Venn diagram of the words in this standard and those of its Reading: Literature counterpart would put a lot in the middle, which means that our description for this standard is pretty much the same as that of the other one. When you read its counterpart standard, just replace anything related to literature with non-fiction as you read.
