Write narratives in which they recount a well-elaborated event or short sequence of events, include details to describe actions, thoughts, and feelings, use temporal words to signal event order, and provide a sense of closure.
Second graders are steppin' it up. Students should have already been recounting and describing a few sequenced events, but "short sequence" here means more than just two. Along with a few more events, they should be including more details, more thoughts, and more temporal words. Mo smarts, mo writing.
