Distinguish their own point of view from that of the author of a text.
At this age, third graders may still believe that everyone in the world thinks like them, and this standard is here to show them that they're wrong. Once students realize that there are other ways of looking at things, they may realize that some of their own ways of thinking are wrong and change them, which is what we'd like to call personal growth.
