Odds of Getting In
It's not a breeze to get into MSF. Lots of people want to do the right thing and help their fellow humans, but very few are actually cut out for the job. Out of the thousands who apply each year, only a handful are chosen to move on to orientation and training.
That being said, if you speak foreign languages and are a world-class surgeon, OB/GYN, anesthesiologist, or infectious disease specialist, they'll find a spot for you and you won't have to stay as long. Surgeons and highly desired specialists are courted by MSF, and they can run two- and three-month missions whenever their busy practices allow them to spend some time away.
