Exactly how steamy is this story?
G
Since the beginning of time, man has looked up into space and wondered, “What’s it like to have sex in zero gravity?” (Wait, you haven’t asked that? Oh well.) Although we can guess, we really have no data – NASA’s official position is that no one has had sex in space (source).
That’s pretty much Orson Scott Card’s position in Ender’s Game – and it’s a good thing, too, since most of his major characters are way too young to be thinking about such things. These are kids who haven’t even gone through puberty yet, as Val reminds Peter when he’s laying out his “control the world through blogs” plan: “I can’t do a weekly column…I don’t even have a monthly period yet” (9.136). (Hey, if that “control the world” plan doesn’t work out, this kid could have a great career in stand-up.)
If we were rating Ender's Game for violence, though, we would have to give this something like an R because of the brutal violence these kids do to each other.
