The Standard

Write opinion pieces on topics or texts, supporting a point of view with reasons.

This standard helps support the reading standards that separate student points of view from author and character points of view. But that's not all this standard does. It also reinforces standards that ask for textual evidence and proof to back up claims. These are skills that will reach way beyond middle school: into high school, college, and beyond.
