Common Core Standards
Grade 8
Language L.8.6
Acquire and use accurately grade-appropriate general academic and domain-specific words and phrases; gather vocabulary knowledge when considering a word or phrase important to comprehension or expression.
Are students ready for high-school level words? If so, then they've passed this standard. After all, this is pretty much just a summation of all the previous standards, so as long as those have been met, this one will be, too.
P.S. If your students need to brush up on their spelling and grammar, send 'em over to our Grammar Learning Guides so they can hone their skills before conquering the Common Core.
