Common Core Standards
Grade 6
Language L.6.4
Determine or clarify the meaning of unknown and multiple-meaning words and phrases based on grade 6 reading and content, choosing flexibly from a range of strategies.
The only difference between this Common Core Standard and its seventh- and eighth-grade counterparts is the change from "consult reference materials" (in sixth grade) to "consult general and specialized reference materials" (in seventh and eighth) in one of the sub-standards. In other words, they basically all say the same thing, so you can read our description of the eighth-grade standard and still be able to apply it down here.
P.S. If your students need to brush up on their spelling and grammar, send 'em over to our Grammar Learning Guides so they can hone their skills before conquering the Common Core.
