Odds of Getting In
Around seventy percent of the Earth's surface is covered with water. Does this mean full employment for marine biologists, or what?
Although most areas of marine biology have a bright career outlook, marine biotechnology should continue to grow especially rapidly because of the vast biodiversity under the sea and its potential research benefits to those of us on land. Many research projects are federally funded, especially at universities, so these positions do rely somewhat on the funding atmosphere, but the budget for science and technology tends to be pretty stable.
What about job security beyond the bucks? It's actually quite good, since there's so much to learn and still so much to do.
