well a mystery is a lot like a gymnast routine. sure you can toss in all

00:06

kinds of mind-boggling twists and turns but if you can't stick the ending you're [girl turns somersaults]

00:11

in real trouble. luckily mean Russian judges are harder

00:15

to find in the wonderful world of mystery writing. all right so how do you

00:19

stick the ending? well first you eat a balanced breakfast [puppy chews on a stick]

00:22

then you stretch then -all right we're not covering gymnastics today -huh well

00:26

we might not be super prepared for this video, I will just wing it. so before we

00:30

get into the nitty-gritty we should cover the two parts that make up an [girls climb a jungle gym]

00:33

ending the climax and the denouement. the climax is the most exciting part. the

00:38

action and pace of the story pick up and the tone becomes urgent. it also

00:42

generally involves a final confrontation between the story's two main opposing

00:45

parties, and if that's not enough for you the major problem or question in the

00:50

story is also resolved. yep the climax is like a rollercoaster [woman raises hands as man sits next to her]

00:53

ride. all the excitement and none of the height requirements which is good. who

00:58

wants to wear platform shoes while they're reading right? all right.

01:02

denouement the other hand is where the story slows down the fates of all the

01:06

main characters are revealed. all the remaining questions are answered and the [man cries behind bars]

01:10

loose ends tied up. all right while the climax is a crazy ball of action energy

01:15

the denouement puts a calm tidy bow on the story, which we suppose could be

01:20

exciting if you're really into tidy bows. all right, we can see a climax and denouement

01:24

in action if we think about the end of the first Star Wars movie. oh and spoiler

01:29

alert, we guess, but come on it's been out since 1977 if you haven't seen it well

01:34

that's on you. so in the climax the rebels are attacking the Death Star but

01:38

things aren't looking so hot. more and more rebel x-wings are being

01:42

shot down and no one looks good in those jumpsuits. seriously

01:47

orange? who made that call? it's not the new black. what's worse the Deathstar is

01:51

almost ready to fire on the rebel base which isn't great if you happen to be in

01:55

that base. anyway soon enough Luke's one of the only pilots left and guided by

01:59

Obi Wan's spirit and the force he fires off two shots blowing the Death Star to

02:04

bits which, come on a giant explosion in space? plants pretty exciting. in the

02:10

daytime although things slow down Leia hands out some medals to the heroes who

02:14

all smile at each other knowing that they're all safe for now -sort of- and

02:18

unless you happen to be really into medal ceremonies well this clearly isn't

02:22

as exciting as the climax. so there you have it climax boom he got the shot. and

02:27

then denouement. medals. both are important but if you take one thing away

02:31

from this video let it be this. never wear an orange jumpsuit voluntarily.

02:37

never that's why prisoners have to wear it.
