Thank you We sneak College one o one what is
- 00:08
name recognition How much does name recognition matter when you're
- 00:14
picking a school Should be on ly be applying to
- 00:15
schools we've heard of because that means other people have
- 00:17
heard of him it's true that there are a lot

- 00:19
of schools that just it seems like everyone is on
- 00:22
the big public universities you know people have heard of
- 00:25
just because they've heard of that thing so they've heard
- 00:28
of the university of colorado because they typically know about
- 00:30
colorado But then there are smaller colleges that not as
- 00:33
many people have heard of and that could be a
- 00:36
drawback in the initial college search for a lot of
- 00:38
students because you know when their parents were thinking the
- 00:40
same thing what in my job prospects if i'm coming
- 00:43
out of a college that when i'm sending resumes out
- 00:46
and interviewing nobody has heard of except for maybe that
- 00:48
alum network and sometimes you actually do have to work
- 00:51
a little harder if he had graduated from some of
- 00:54
the bigger universities people have heard of it If you
- 00:56
graduate from a smaller college sometimes your perspective employers haven't
- 01:00
heard of it you might need to make an extra
- 01:02
phone call send up an extra e mail but a
- 01:04
lot of students that come out of smaller colleges have
- 01:06
those skills already They've learned to be and small classes
- 01:10
and raise their hand go see their professors so they've
- 01:12
developed those skills and even if the name recognition isn't
- 01:15
out there they're going to network like crazy They're going
- 01:18
to use their career development center everything they can to
- 01:20
get those job So can there be a downside though
- 01:23
to that name recognition i'm thinking of for example someone
- 01:26
who went to your steve arizona vs in college and
- 01:29
maybe no one unless they're from these coast but it's
- 01:32
a great school So if someone has heard of it
- 01:34
they know and they think it's a great school where
- 01:36
someone might hear university of arizona and go oh yeah
- 01:38
that that's a party school Can there be that downside
- 01:41
to name I think they're definitely stereotypes about certain schools
- 01:45
you know is that a party school big greek system
- 01:48
is it's super conservative Maybe that employees won't match our
- 01:51
liberal culture or the flipside Maybe it's really liberal that
- 01:54
we have a conservative Culture Who knows i think students
- 01:57
really need to do Our graduates would be needing a
- 02:00
lot of work on their own to research what's out
- 02:01
there talk with the prospective employers especially students who graduated
- 02:06
a year earlier and find out what their experience was
- 02:09
and so that'll help them as they make their own
- 02:11
job searches Many schools are famous because of their location
- 02:17
Bigger colleges tend to carry more acclaim than smaller colleges
- 02:22
With small colleges you'll likely have to work harder to
- 02:24
let job interviewers know your skill set Students at smaller
- 02:28
schools developed strong proactive skills be mindful of school stereotypes
- 02:35
and how they can affect your job Search research How
- 02:39
employers feel about your prospective colleges Like if they think
- 02:47
you went to a party school and you want to 00:02:48.61 --> [endTime] go to wall street Good luck
