Yertle the Turtle and Other Stories Yertle the Turtle, Lines 93 – 98 Summary

Plunk!

  • Spoiler alert: Yertle falls off his throne and into a pond.
  • Yeah, it's hilarious.
  • Take a look at what Seuss does here in the first three lines. Just for good measure, he builds Yertle up one more time, reminding us yet again just what Yertle is king of...
  • …and then he knocks him down at the wrong end of an ellipses.
  • With a plunk (a very silly noise, the opposite of what you would associate with a king). And that is the end of the Turtle King's rule.
  • And how did Yertle, the King of Such Great Heights, the guy who cared nothing about the people on the bottom just as long as he was seeing great heights… how did he finally fall?
  • It wasn't the moon that did it. Nope. It was the turtles below—at the very bottomest bottom of a very tall stack.
  • And just look at how he fell. No arc to it. Just straight down, those dictatory feet waving helplessly in the air. Oh, Yert. You've come a long way.
