Guide Mentor
Character Role Analysis
Alfieri
Eddie goes to the lawyer, seeking advice on how to legally stop Catherine's relationship. He doesn't get the advice he wants to hear. Alfieri councils Eddie to let Catherine go and live her own life. Of course, Eddie doesn't listen to his would-be mentor. Instead, he pays attention to his own possessive instincts, hurting everyone around him and destroying himself.
Beatrice
Eddie's wife, Beatrice, also does her best to guide Eddie. Throughout the entire play she tries to talk sense into him. She finds about a billion ways to tell Eddie to let go of Catherine. She even does a little mentoring of Catherine as well, when she advises her niece to stop acting like a child around Eddie. In the end, Catherine takes her aunt's advice, while Eddie sticks to his own stubborn ideas.
