Adele is the supreme example of a "mother-woman," the kind of woman that Edna most emphatically is not. Their biggest moment of contrast comes in Chapter Four when Adele starts sewing winter outfits for her children. Rather than whole-heartedly jump in on the sewing session, Edna would rather just enjoy her summer vacation.
