- Chancellor Palpatine has summoned Anakin to visit him in his box at the opera to tell him that they've found General Grievous in the Utapau system.
- Palpatine thinks the Council would be stupid not to send Anakin after Grievous.
- He also tells Anakin that the Council has a plot to betray him and take control of the Republic.
- Anakin admits that his faith in the Council has been shaken, and Palpatine guesses it is because they asked him to spy on him. (Ooh, he's good.)
- Palpatine goes on to tell Anakin the story of Darth Plagueis in order to illustrate how similar the Sith and the Jedi are.
- What follows is The Tragedy of Darth Plagueis the Wise: A Sith Legend.
- Darth Plagueis (DP for short) was so good at the dark side of the Force that he could use it to create life and prevent death in the ones he loved. (This makes Anakin's eyes light up, all right.)
- But, he became so powerful that he became terrified of losing his power. His apprentice, to whom he had taught everything, used all of his knowledge and killed DP in his sleep. Womp womp.
- All Anakin wants to know is if he can learn how to stop death.
- Palpatine says, basically, "You can't learn it from a Jedi, dummy. The Sith have the immortality know-how."
