Obi-Wan Kenobi and Chancellor Palpatine

By pitting the two mentor figures directly against each other by making them compete for Anakin's loyalty and devotion, we are able to see how the Jedi and Sith forces are truly polar opposites. Where Obi-Wan is selfless and benevolent, Palpatine is evil and power-hungry. Where Obi-Wan very obviously wants what's best for his Chosen One, Palpatine only wants to have the sharpest tools in his shed.
