Character Analysis
Amritrao is a famous lawyer from Calcutta who is brought in to argue Aziz's case. Fielding hesitates when he hears that Amritrao is going to be brought in because Amritrao is known for being anti-British; Fielding is concerned that Amritrao may just inflame racial tensions, instead of establishing Aziz's innocence. During the trial, however, Amritrao does not play the race card and is downright dignified when compared to the dramatic Mahmoud Ali.
