Teaching Charlie and the Chocolate Factory can be a delicious experience, but there are a few challenges that you might face as a teacher. Especially if you incorporate the movies—which, come on, of course you will. No one leaves Gene Wilder and Johnny Depp in the dust.
Gene Wilder and Johnny Depp both have their parents-aren't-sure-about-them issues. Wilder seems to be descending into madness when he begins his chant on the chocolate river, and the corresponding videography can be a little unsettling. And then there's Depp, a darker Willy Wonka who, let's face it, is pretty creepy. Because the movies bring this classic children's book to life, we definitely suggest incorporating clips into your activities—but just be extra careful.
