By the end of the year, read and comprehend literature, including stories, dramas, and poetry, at the high end of the grades 2-3 text complexity band independently and proficiently.

While the texts of second and third graders are pretty much the same stuff, third graders have to also learn about plays and other forms of drama, something second graders don't have to do. Make sure that students are reading more and more difficult texts as the year goes on.
