Film and video production might sound like it's the ticket straight to the top. After all, filmmakers always seem so rich and happy…the ones on TV anyway. The fact of the matter is, though, that's a tiny fraction of the amount of people actually working in the industry. The vast majority of people are doing what they can to make a living wage, and are pretty miserable.

The job satisfaction here is abysmal. Barely one in four people think they made the right choice, and most will probably give you a sad exhale if you ask if they regret their decisions. Why? Well, for starters, this is a multi-trillion dollar industry. It's built on the backs of huge blockbusters and if the movie isn't popular, the whole thing goes kaput.

This also dovetails with the fact that most people think they're going to be the next Christopher Nolan. Or, if you're reading this in the future, Fignoxicorp IV. We're assuming that'll be the name of the best director amongst our robot overlords.

So everyone thinks they're Nolan or Fignoxicorp, but there's only one of each of those guys. There are many others toiling further down the rungs of success. The odds of going to the top are extremely low, and when people realize this, they get frustrated. The sad part is that they're not even making tons and tons of cash to make up for it, either.

This is a rough major, and it's destined to chew a lot of people up and spit them out. Not literally, though. Unless you fall into one of the dinosaur puppets in the next Jurassic Park movie.
