Odds of Getting In

Oh, you want to work at the zoo—sorry. That's a bit more complicated.
It's important to make yourself known early on in the industry. If you're seriously considering this as your lifelong pursuit of happiness, you can start right now as a volunteer or intern.
Once you're a fixture at the zoo, work hard to prove your worth: take the jobs that no one else wants, be flexible, stay positive, and brush up on your animal knowledge. Go get your degree, then come back and show it to everyone you used to work with.
Finally, watch out for flying elbows from other aspiring zookeepers (they can behave like wild animals, we hear), and be ready when you get the call.
