Odds of Hanging On
Unless you're just a total slacker, you shouldn't have any trouble hanging in there. The number of jobs in seismology is projected to grow faster than the national average over the next few years, so you should be good to go. To cement your position, you'll need to get higher degrees. A master's is basically required, and if you want anybody to ever call you "boss," you'd better get a PhD. All in all, though, we're happy to report that the outlook is good.
