Glory
Here's another non-starter for your underappreciated but incredibly necessary inspectors. The most glorious days for you are those that contain no accidents, no system failures, no spills, and no one noticing any of it—because that's what you're paid for. The least glorious days are those once-in-a-blue-moon events where everything goes off the rails, figuratively or literally-speaking. And when those happen, everybody knows about it.
We realize that's lot of pressure for not a lot of praise. If you start feeling like that, take solace that without you, a lot more trains would derail. But really, if your ego can't handle a lack of recognition for getting paid a lot to keep everyone alive, you're probably not right for the job.
