Odds of Hanging On
Many jobs for political scientists require experience. If Jack Smith and Betty Sue Jones are neck-and-neck in the governor's race, neither candidate is going to hire a newb to run their campaign. They're going to want campaign managers and staffers with successful track records, because both candidates want to win.
In other words, once you actually find work as a political scientist and prove that you're good at your job, you should be set…so long as your candidate or your cause keeps winning.
