Fame
Your maps could be popping up all over...well, everywhere. Google could hire you to do map stuff, or you could even be working for the CIA. But that doesn't necessarily mean people will acknowledge your efforts. So in reality, fame isn't something you should be chasing as a cartographer.
Like we mentioned earlier, just about everything to be discovered on Earth has already been discovered. Discovering a new continent or jungle or rainforest might've brought fame when those sorts of things happened, but now you'll just be discovering new formatting tricks for the digital mapmaking programs you use. It hardly brings the same level of notoriety, we're sorry to report.
