Glory
There's a reason you decided to become a geriatrician and not a dermatologist. You're interested in helping to serve one of the most underserved groups in the medical community. There aren't many of you, and as the baby boomers continue to get older there will be an even higher demand for geriatricians to help fulfill their needs (source). That means that there'll be a shortage of doctors in your specialty—and that makes you all the more important.
Geriatricians aren't just doctors, they work holistically with their patients to help them get to a better place, both in the short- and long-term. A geriatrician takes time with each of their patients to ensure a healthy and comfortable lifestyle—whatever their medical condition may be. You probably won't receive trophies or awards for your work; this field is more about a personal sense of glory. It will be all over the thankful faces of your patients and their families after you treat them.
