Power

You want power? How about controlling the reigns of a 10,000 horsepower engine that powers an eight-ton claw capable of smashing through sheer rock? If that seems like it'd make you feel as strong as a gigantic angry green dude, you're probably on the right track.

Unfortunately, aside from the awesomeness flowing through the various engines and heavy equipment components, there's no place for a power trip on a dredger. The crew follows the three c's on the high (or low) seas: communication, cooperation, and competence. One foul-up can snarl a cable, damage the ship, cause injury, or in some other way ruin an otherwise fun twelve-hour shift.

As a member of the crew, you're pretty much at the bottom of the totem pole, unless you move up to a senior position such as dredge master or even captain. Maybe that hierarchical simplicity is the attraction of the job; being in charge can be a bucket of headaches sometimes.

Oh, we almost forgot to mention that the collective efforts of you and your crewmates can accomplish in a few days what would take Mother Nature decades, or even centuries, to do. We're talking restoring a beach, removing a sandbar, even making a city bigger. How's that for power?
