Odds of Getting In
The folks at the National Academy of Sciences are trying to put you out of a job; or rather, make it a lot more difficult for you to get in.
According to them, we should do away with the coroner system in favor of the medical examiner system. Remember, medical examiners are required to have a medical degree. Coroners are not. Coroner/Barbers/Dog Groomers everywhere are up in arms protesting. So what if there are mistakes being made all over the place? They want their right to declare that dead people are dead.
For now, despite all the attention from Frontline and NPR, the rules still apply.
If you live in a rural area, with a small population and even smaller town budget, you've got a good chance at convincing your mayor/uncle to give you the job.
If you want to go to med school and work in the big city you might be able to find someone who will hire you, but no guarantees.
At least you know people aren't going to stop dying anytime soon.
