You're never going to get on the cover of People, and they'll never mention you on TMZ. But there are a few periodicals about camping, so maybe—if you dot all your i's and marsh all your mallows—you could be featured in their hallowed pages.
But let's face it. Counselors don't get famous—at least not in the traditional sense. Your campers and everyone at the camp will know who you are. To the kids, you'll be larger than life because you're older. You can show them how to do things they can't.
If you're bad at your job, you'll certainly feel famous (and quickly). Rumors will run through the camp faster than if you were Kim Kardashian. If you're the jerk who ended soccer twenty minutes early, every camper will know your name within hours (they'll also know that you're a secret alien with boogers for brains). You'll also reach a certain level of fame within the parenting circles. Parents are ultra-protective, and if they think you're hurting their loved ones, they'll destroy you.
But things will be much easier if you're just good at your job. The kids will know if you're up to snuff—they'll want to participate in your activities, and you'll develop a sort of golden mythic aura, which will vanish completely the second you leave camp, because again, counselors aren't actually famous.
But you can feel famous—and that's something, isn't it?
