Yeah, the power situation is kind of schizophrenic.
Say you're a college coach looking to recruit the best basketball players in the country for your team. If your school is Butler University, with its superior program and butt-kicking reputation, you're going to attract more talented athletes than your counterparts at lesser well-known, less competitive schools.
It feels great when you can lure in the cream of the crop without too much effort, right? But, at the same time as you’re luring players to your program with your athletic wiles, you're having to beg alumni for moolah because your team needs a state-of-the-art locker room and a French chef whipping up organic deliciousness in the team kitchen.
Things get weirder at the professional level. If Kobe Bryant, who makes millions and millions of dollars every year and has a huge fan following, decides he doesn't like you and that you are the reason his team isn't winning, you're probably going to get kicked to the curb.
