As a potential college admissions officer, you respect up front, no frills, immediate information right? We thought as much. So here goes: The long term prospects for this job are pretty great, especially if you're tough. Because so many admissions officers get burned out from the long hours and tough task of rejecting perfectly good candidates, turnover is high. If you're thick-skinned and have excellent endurance (and a love of caffeine), you can turn this into a long career.
Add to that the fact that there are a lot more applications sent to colleges every year as well as the ever-increasing value of higher education, the job will definitely be around. Plus, with the satisfaction of knowing that you're helping to shape generations to come, the long hours and enormous amount of reading can feel quite meaningful.
Providing you can stick it out, this job is not going anywhere anytime soon.
