Even though More is our fearless narrator, it's Hythloday's opinions and adventures that really keep Utopia going. He's the one who ventures out on a mysterious voyage and encounters this unknown and exciting new society. Even if we think some of the stuff that goes on in Utopia is a little bit loopy, we're still rooting for him and dying to know what crazy thing they do next. Unlike More and Giles, who we quickly just meet, Hythloday's introduction into the text is more dramatic; he's a kind of tall, dark, (old, bearded) stranger.
