Westley Timeline & Summary

Westley lives a modest life as a farmhand for Buttercup and her family; he pretty much spends day and night doing whatever Buttercup asks him.
Once Buttercup reveals that she loves him, Westley decides to go to America and make his fortune so he can provide a good life for the two of them. While on the high seas, he gets captured by the Dread Pirate Roberts and threatened with death. But he charms the guy until he (Westley) becomes the new Dread Pirate Roberts; it looks like the other guy has been looking to retire.
Westley comes back as the man in black and tracks Buttercup down. The problem is that in his absence, she's become engaged to the Prince of Florin. Westley saves her from some kidnappers, though, and tries to run away with her. But they get caught by Prince Humperdinck and Westley gets tortured and killed for his troubles.
Later on, Westley gets resurrected by a guy named Miracle Max. Westley has hardly any strength in his body because it'll take weeks for him to regain full health, but nonetheless, he leads an assault on Humperdinck's castle and hatches plans for his buddies (Inigo and Fezzik) to carry out.
In the end, Westley escapes with Buttercup and his buds. Goldman leaves us hanging, though, on whether they escape from Humperdinck's pursuing forces.
