- A guy named Remi Boncoeur invites the narrator out to San Francisco to hang out and meet his girlfriend, Lee Ann.
- The road trip? Doesn’t go so well. First of all, our narrator doesn’t have a car, which can be inhibiting when you take a road trip. Secondly, there’s some inclement weather. Frustration ensues. Of course everything will be OK when he gets to Chicago.
- He hitchhikes and gets some advice on going to Chicago, where he plans to stop before reaching Denver.
- The narrator feels stupid for his poetic dreams of traveling across the country in one beautiful line, and just gives up and takes a bus to Chicago.
