• Saleem Sinai enters the world with a boom on August 15, 1947. He is switched at birth with Shiva, who becomes the son of Wee Willie Winkie.
• Baby Saleem comes down with typhoid and the only thing that can save him is snake venom from the crazy Dr. Schaapsteker.
• While healing from typhoid, baby Saleem figures out how to stand, and bows his legs permanently. Oh yeah, and his little sister is born.
• Saleem learns that is a bad idea to hide in laundry baskets when he ends up accidentally spying on his mom as she fantasizes about Nadir Khan. He discovers his telepathy while trying to stop himself from sneezing.
• When Saleem tells his family about the voices in his head, Ahmed Sinai smacks him so hard that he can't hear in one ear anymore. Guess that was a bad choice.
• No secret is safe from Saleem, and he uses his powers to probe into his family's mind.
• Evie Burns enters Saleem's life. He tries to impress her by riding a bike, but he ends up falling off and unlocking a new part of his power. When he uses his new power on her, she freaks out.
• Saleem talks to the Midnight's Children, and meets Shiva.
• The Midnight's Children have a vote about who should be leader, and Saleem wins.
• Mr. Emil Zagallo, Saleem's geography teacher, rips out his hair. Later his friend shuts him in a classroom and cuts off a finger. This leads to him going to the hospital and his family finding out that he could not be their biological child.
• Saleem is sent to hang out with his uncle Hanif and aunt Pia. It's pretty cool until he finds out that Pia has been cheating on Hanif.
• Back home, the Midnight's Children are falling apart.
• Saleem makes a plot for revenge that ends with Lia Sabartami and Homi Catrack getting shot to death and nearly everyone moving away from the Methwold estate.
• Uncle Zulfikar gets Saleem involved in a coup d'état that takes over the Pakistani government.
• When Saleem gets a sinus infection his parents take him to the hospital, but the treatment takes away his powers. No more powers, but at least he can smell.
• The family moves to Pakistan and Brass Monkey turns into Jamila Singer. Saleem learns from the world's oldest prostitute that he's in love with his sister.
• Jamila Singer never wants to see Saleem again after he confesses his love.
• The Indo Pakistani war of 1965 kills Saleem's family and gives him amnesia.
• Saleem becomes part of the Canine Unit for Tracking and Intelligence Activities, and gets lost in the jungle. When he gets bitten by a snake, his memories return.
• Because he's totally brave, Saleem hides with the magicians from the war.
• After a while, he goes to visit his uncle Mustapha, but he gets kicked out when his aunt discovers him sleeping with Parvati.
• Parvati uses Shiva to get pregnant so that she can marry Saleem. They have a son, but Parvati gets killed when there is a raid on the magician's ghetto.
• Saleem gets taken to The Widow's hostel to be sterilized.
• When he gets back, he hangs out with Picture Singh until he recognizes a chutney that he had as a child.
• Saleem finds Mary's pickle factory and begins working there.
• On Saleem's 31st birthday he marries Padma and dies.
