Theodore Hickman (Hickey)

It might be a bit of a stretch to call Hickey the antagonist of the play, but he is the guy who stands between Harry and Harry’s self-deceptive peace of mind. Hickey loves to mix it up. When he finally arrives he wastes no time challenging the status quo. He sets out to change everybody in Harry’s, and he does everything in his power to make it happen. He faces off with Larry on multiple occasions. The two battle it out over the fate of the group and each other’s beliefs. Ultimately, Hickey gets carted off to jail, but he made that happen himself. This final act, including Parritt’s suicide, allows Larry’s transformation to take place.
