Cover your eyes, kids, and don't peek! There's lots of sex in this one. So much so that we have a theme on it. Blomkvist and Salander both have big sexual appetites and somewhat unconventional attitudes about the practice. The novel also explores a much darker side of sex – sexual assault and sexual abuse. And this is where things get graphic – too graphic, some readers and critics think. Do the S&M torture chambers, incest, and rape in The Girl With the Dragon Tattoo promote the very violence Stieg Larsson fought against in his real life? Or, is it necessary to get graphic to wake us up to these serious issues?
