Jo

Jo spurs everyone he meets to action, whether for good or for ill. He's kind of muse-of-all-trades in that way. For Nemo and Snagsby, Jo is an inspiration to be generous and charitable. For Tulkinghorn, he is a prime opportunity for stealth investigation. For Esther and Woodcourt, he triggers the caretaking impulse. And for us, the audience? He is supposed to be the inspiration for getting all activist about the plight of the urban poor and to agitate the government to make changes in the way this population is treated. Take to the streets, people!
