Context
We're in Chapter 5 of Lord of the Flies, and things are starting to heat up.
Piggy, speaking these lines, represents innocence—and how. The island is degenerating into anarchy, and all he can think about is what the grownups are going to think.
Where you've heard it
Piggy is the stereotypical goody-two-shoes. You'll see him in any movie or TV show where all the kids are rebelling and there's one kid who pipes up with, "But what will our parents think?"
P.S. Shmoop was totally the Piggy of the group back in middle school. We feel for you, dude.
Pretentious Factor
If you were to drop this quote at a dinner party, would you get an in-unison "awww" or would everyone roll their eyes and never invite you back? Here it is, on a scale of 1-10.
Nothing to see here, folks.
