Context
This line is from the Beatles song "In My Life" by the Beatles, from their Rubber Soul album (1965).
Although Sir Paul added a few musical licks, this song was mostly written and sung by bad boy Beatle, John Lennon. Apparently, John got all misty-eyed when asked about his childhood and juvenile delinquency in Liverpool. "In My Life" has him reminiscing over school chums, family, getting the band together, girlfriends, and his pre-mop-top hair days.
Where you've heard it
This is a sure-fire tearjerker among the baby boomer set. Think funerals, high school reunions, or anniversaries. More likely you've heard Boyz II Men, Bette Midler, Metallica, James Taylor, the cast of Glee, or Ozzy Osbourne sing their own versions. (Word to the wise: skip Ozzy's—he's not at his Grammy best.)
