Context

We're in Chapter 1 of Lord of the Flies, and the symbolism and foreshadowing are already in full action.

Ralph sees a creature off in the distance—a beast of sorts—and then realizes that it's just a group of boys wearing black choir robes. He's not really afraid at this point, but given what's to come (spoiler alert: the boys turn into beasts), maybe he should be.

Where you've heard it

A bunch of teenage boys can seems like a "creature" in any situation, but imagine it on a deserted island.

This one has kind of a Lost-ish smoke monster feel to it, if you ask us.

Pretentious Factor

If you were to drop this quote at a dinner party, would you get an in-unison "awww" or would everyone roll their eyes and never invite you back? Here it is, on a scale of 1-10.

Creepy? Yes. Pretentious? Not as much.
