"I solemnly swear that I am up to no good"

[George] took out his wand, touched the parchment lightly, and said, "I solemnly swear that I am up to no good."

At once, thin ink lines began to spread like a spider's web from the point that George's wand had touched. They joined each other, they crisscrossed, they fanned into every corner of the parchment; then words began to blossom across the top, great, curly, green words, that proclaimed:

Messrs. Moony, Wormtail, Padfoot, and Prongs
Purveyors of Aids to Magical Mischief-Makers
are proud to present
The Marauder's Map.

Context

This is probably one of the most famous quotes to come out of the Harry Potter universe and it's a good one. Harry hears this little saying from the Weasley twins during his third year at Hogwarts. When Harry finds he's unable to go into the nearby wizarding village with the rest of the third years, Fred and George pass along a miraculous little piece of magic called the Marauder's Map.

By simply tapping the map and saying, "I solemnly swear that I am up to no good," anyone can get a full view of the Hogwarts grounds and where every professor, student, and nosy cat happens to be at that time. It's perfect for sneaking into Hogsmeade and snagging some Bertie Bott's Every Flavor Beans at Honeydukes. Well done, Messrs. Moony, Wormtail, Padfoot, and Prongs.

Where you've heard it

Are you up to no good? Then you've definitely recited this quote before. Hey, everyone needs a little mischief sometimes.

This quote is a popular one, so you'll see it on baby bibs, coffee mugs, shot glasses, and so much more.

Pretentious Factor

If you were to drop this quote at a dinner party, would you get an in-unison "awww" or would everyone roll their eyes and never invite you back? Here it is, on a scale of 1-10.

It's never pretentious to get into a little mischief. Especially if you're solemnly swearing about it.
