Context

This line is spoken by Little Joey, played by Brandon de Wilde, in the film Shane, directed by George Stevens (1953).

Little Joey admires the mysterious gunslinger Shane (Alan Ladd) and hopes he'll teach him to shoot a gun someday. His mama don't approve, though. One day, there's a gunfight in the saloon, and Shane wipes out the bad guys, restoring peace to the town. Good thing Shane had a gun, huh, mama?

But Shane is wounded, and he tells Joey, who looks like a dusty Doogie Howser, to tell his mama that everything is okay. Shane rides away, slumping over in the saddle, deaf to dirty Doogie's calls of "Shane! Shane! Come back!"

He's not coming back, kid.

This movie, a classic Western, was nominated for a bunch of Oscars. Oh, and apparently, Brandon de Wilde, who played little Joey, stuck out his tongue every time they tried to film the famous final scene. Good thing they finally got him to behave.
