Mutiny on the Bounty Quotes

Context

This line is spoken by Captain Bligh, played by Charles Laughton, in the movie Mutiny on the Bounty, directed by Frank Lloyd (1935).

What do you do when you're trapped on a ship in the South Pacific with a captain whose favorite hobby is flogging the crew? Launch a mutiny, of course. Based on the novel by Charles Nordhoff and James Norman Hall, Mutiny on the Bounty gives a version of the historical mutiny that occurred on the British ship HMS Bounty, which was sent to Tahiti for a load of breadfruit. Mmm, breadfruit.

The movie shows Captain Bligh doing all kinds of mean stuff to the crew in the name of discipline. Eventually, the first mate, Mr. Christian, can't take it anymore and launches a rebellion against Bligh. Among Capt. Bligh's many annoying habits is bellowing Christian's name whenever he's angry at him, like in this scene where the two get into a row about sending a seaman up to the masthead during a storm.

Where you've heard it

Capt. Bligh and his bellowing of "Mr. Christian!" has been spoofed plenty of times over the years. For example, there was this episode of The Simpsons that casts Principle Skinner as a particularly tyrannical Capt. Bligh.
