Context
This line is from the song "Landslide" by Fleetwood Mac from the album Fleetwood Mac, which is often called the White Album (1975).
When she wrote the song "Landslide," Stevie Nicks was working in Aspen, Colorado as a cleaning lady and a waitress, just trying to make ends meet. So, if we had to guess, the "mountain" and the "snow-covered hills" featured in the song are probably allusions to the Rocky Mountains.
"Landslide" is about a lot of things—in particular, Stevie Nicks' father. Not only was her father having an operation the day after she wrote the song, but Stevie just wasn't sure if she was actually going to make it in the music business. Her father told her she should give the old music thing a try for another six months—and three months into it, Stevie wrote "Landslide." Good looking out, dad.
This famous line is most likely a reference to how her life was drastically changing at that point. Not only was her father sick, but her relationship to Lindsey Buckingham, her former lover, was also going a bit sour. He had just left Aspen with the Everly Brothers, and Stevie was down in the dumps.
Basically, this line is all her feelings about her dad and Lindsey Buckingham rolled into one heartbreaking lyric.
Where you've heard it
Ever seen a television show or a movie where the main character is in the car looking out the window, all sad-like? It's probably raining and dark out, and the main character's lover is leaving. Well, there's bound to be some sad music in the background—and that sad music might just be the song "Landslide."

Pretentious Factor
If you were to drop this quote at a dinner party, would you get an in-unison "awww" or would everyone roll their eyes and never invite you back? Here it is, on a scale of 1-10.
If you're trying to win your lover back with some sentimentality, we wouldn't suggest you use a quote from a Fleetwood Mac song. Buy 'em an ice cream or something—who knows? Ice cream can fix anything.
