This line is from the song "Hollaback Girl" by Gwen Stefani from the album Love. Angel. Music. Baby. (2004).

In 2004, Gwen Stefani left No Doubt (we guess she had doubts?), flew to Japan, assembled a cadre of Harajuku Girls, and started singing about bananas. 

It was weird.

Her debut single, "Hollaback Girl," says, "A few times I been around that track, so it's not just gonna happen like that, cause I ain't no hollaback girl." Okay, we know she's not a hollaback girl, but...what exactly is a hollaback girl?

Well, we know that Stefani has been "around that track" a few times, maybe in her fancy black-and-white track suit. Whatever her attire, she's not ashamed, and she doesn't appreciate someone else disparaging her reputation. So if anybody talks trash about her, she's not going to "holler back" at them; she's going to kick their butts.

Where you've heard it

We're not sure if anyone calls anyone else a hollaback girl (ever), so you're more likely to hear references to the song itself, usually when talking about the Harajuki Girls and Gwen Stefani's cultural appropriation of the Japanese.
