Speaker: The Robot
"Danger, Will Robinson!"
Danger, Will Robinson! Danger!
Context
This famous quote is spoken by The Robot, voiced by Dick Tufield, in the TV show Lost in Space (1965-1968).
As if getting lost in space on the way to Alpha Centauri weren't dangerous enough, the Robinson space family encounters tons of dangers along the way, like space pirates, monster plants, and angry aliens.
And whenever the youngest Robinson, Will, is about to stumble headfirst into trouble, his trusty robot, aptly named The Robot, waves its arms around and blorps, "Danger, Will Robinson!" hopefully keeping him out of trouble before he falls down a space well.
Where you've heard it
You might hear this if anyone is about to do something dangerous or stupid…whether or not their name is Will Robinson.
Additional Notable References
- The Lost in Space movie (1998) had "Danger, Will Robinson!", flashy special effects, and Heather Graham.
- Have the robot announce your text messages.
- The phrase is sometimes used today in computer hacking culture.
Pretentious Factor
If you were to drop this quote at a dinner party, would you get an in-unison "awww" or would everyone roll their eyes and never invite you back? Here it is, on a scale of 1-10.
The Robot is too cheap-looking to be pretentious, and Lost in Space, unlike Star Trek, never thought it was smart.
