Ingot

Modest people use a large, round rock to hold open a door. Gold-o-philes might use bars of gold or silver. You probably didn’t know that the technical term for an oblong block of gold or another metal is called an “ingot,” but now you can get that question correct when the metallurgy category pops up on Jeopardy!
Most people don’t buy or trade blocks of gold unless they’re ultra-wealthy, doing so in the mountains of Switzerland...or they’re burying them in the backyard in case The Walking Dead becomes a reality show.
Ingots of other metals, like steel and tin, are typically larger and are fashioned into other end products through refining and processing after they're transported. But you now know it’s called an ingot every time you look at one of those ridiculous gold bars in an advertisement on Zero Hedge.
